Local Weather - and What to Bring

March is one of the most inviting months to visit San Francisco, with temperatures averaging in the 60s in the daytime and in the 40s at night. Abundant sunshine is a possibility in March, but the city is surrounded by water, and the air can be damp. Bring layers of clothing, including a light jacket, especially for the boat tour and trips to the coast (see the section describing field trips). San Francisco is a city of hills, so be sure to bring comfortable walking shoes – and an umbrella is also recommended.
